Twitter is disgusting (but I still use it..)

Wed, 22 Oct 2025

Todays blog post is a bit of a rant and dump. But I guess that's what this is for?

I have been on Twitter since 2011 or 2012. Back in the day it was mostly for following artists (I remember the Midnight Society Twitter days fondly) and some friends, looking at memes and the occasional weird political post.
I still use it, but even with the "Control Panel for Twitter" shutting out suggestions, search, and only showing the Following and Shared Tweets page it has become very, very uncomfortable to use for me.

Every time I click on a post, even small memes or cute art, there seems to be at least one transphobic and/or plain out Nazi comment. Especially around the aim community, even under the nicest post and msot impressive clip dumps there are a bunch of right wing users posting the most abhorrent shit imaginable.
Sure, I could start blocking every single one I see but at this point I would be spending my day blocking users instead of looking at cool stuff.
Sure, I could try ignoring them, but that gets difficult when they are everywhere and my autistic brain can't just shut that crap out apparently.

It's not big news to see right wing stuff all over the platform, especially since Musk took over and shat on it, but I feel like it's either gotten worse in the last year or I have become more aware of the disgusting stuff.
Twitter is still a platform for me to share some small things with people I normally might not directly interact with, find cool projects and ideas, watch good memes or clipdumps or just read what friends of friends think about their latest acquisition of iced tea.

I'll probably keep using it (just as I always did..), but damn I need to find a better way to filter out the hate, threats and right wing propaganda.

On a more positive note:
I have picked up a revised edition of the book "The Design of Everyday Things" by the legendary Don Norman and it's the first book in a while now that I actually manage to read without frequent breaks because of brainfog!
I am only 1/3rd through, but already have learned a lot of cool ideas and thoughts and I am looking forward to keep reading it.
For some reason I used to be able to sit through 1000 page+ story books or complicated books on neurology or psychology without issues, but about a year ago I started getting heavy brainfog after like 20-30 pages of reading that kept me from reading any books for a while.
Maybe after I finish this book I can continue with some other books I started without getting brainfog after 20 pages..

Have a nice day! :3
